Turfa El Shahed is a reef system that is used in rotation with other mid-range Hurghada sites. Depths run from 8 to around 24 metres along a sloping reef edge with coral heads on sand. The route is flexible and can be adapted around group level, current direction and sea conditions on the day.

Marine life you may encounter

Typical Red Sea reef community - anthias clouds, moray eels, lionfish, parrotfish and butterflyfish. The sandy sections sometimes reveal blue-spotted stingrays, flounders and well-camouflaged crocodile fish.

Best season to dive this site

Year-round. Because it is a rotation site, we pick it when weather and the weekly program call for it.

Typical conditions

Visibility 15 to 28 metres. Current varies from light to moderate. Surface conditions generally manageable.

Planning and practical notes

Diving Star confirms the dive plan on the morning of departure based on wind direction, current and the certification level of divers on board. Two dives per day is standard for daily diving, with a lunch break on board between dives. Equipment rental is EUR 20 per day for certified divers who are not travelling with their own set.
