Who this dive site suits
Works for mixed-level groups - the route can usually be adapted to include a shallower zone for beginners and a deeper plan for experienced divers.
Dive route profile
Shaab Sabina is a compact reef system that sits comfortably inside the central Hurghada area. Depths run gently from 5 metres on the top reef down to around 18 metres on the outer shoulder. The classic route follows the reef edge, drops to the sand for bottom-dwelling life, and returns over the coral garden. Because the reef is easy to navigate, it is a favourite for newly certified divers doing their first fun dives after Open Water.
Marine life you may encounter
Colorful reef fish dominate - parrotfish cracking coral, butterflyfish in pairs, and a constant rotation of cleaner wrasse. Small reef sharks are occasional, turtles pass through, and the sandy sections often hide stingrays. The shallow coral heads are alive with chromis and damselfish, making the top reef ideal for safety stops.
Best season to dive this site
Year-round. Because Shaab Sabina is inshore and the reef has shelter, it is one of the sites we rotate to when outer-reef conditions are not workable. Summer water warms to 28-30 degrees.
Typical conditions
Visibility usually 15 to 25 metres. Current is light to none, making it a relaxed fin. Surface conditions are nearly always calm enough for comfortable boat work.
Planning and practical notes
Diving Star confirms the dive plan on the morning of departure based on wind direction, current and the certification level of divers on board. Two dives per day is standard for daily diving, with a lunch break on board between dives. Equipment rental is EUR 20 per day for certified divers who are not travelling with their own set.
Practical diving tips
Use this dive to refine trim and air consumption in a low-stress environment. It is also a strong photo dive - the colours of the healthy coral garden show well without needing depth.
