Who this dive site suits
Suited to intermediate divers - Open Water with some dives logged, or Advanced Open Water divers who want calmer conditions.
Dive route profile
Hamada is also the name of a small freighter wreck that sits at around 8 to 14 metres near the reef of the same name. The dive combines a short reef section with a shallow wreck exploration, which makes it one of the most accessible wreck experiences in Hurghada. Depths stay shallow enough for Open Water divers throughout.
Marine life you may encounter
The wreck is colonised by glassfish clouds, lionfish, moray eels and large groupers. The adjacent reef holds the usual Red Sea reef residents - parrotfish, butterflyfish, surgeonfish, and occasional turtles.
Best season to dive this site
Year-round. Shallow depth and sheltered position make it a reliable pick when conditions are mixed.
Typical conditions
Visibility 12 to 22 metres. Current is mild. Surface conditions are usually comfortable.
Planning and practical notes
Diving Star confirms the dive plan on the morning of departure based on wind direction, current and the certification level of divers on board. Two dives per day is standard for daily diving, with a lunch break on board between dives. Equipment rental is EUR 20 per day for certified divers who are not travelling with their own set.
Practical diving tips
Because the wreck is shallow, this is ideal for Open Water divers who want their first wreck experience without needing Advanced certification. Bring a torch - the interior structure lights up dramatically with added light.
